Friday, 12-18-2020

Fri, December 18, 2020

4:00 PM – 5:30 PM PST

Come and hear the story of how two innovative friends came together to start their CSA. Marisa and Heather will share their story on their challenges and success on starting their first year of CSA while farming at Big River Farms and accessing land in their community.

Presenters: Moshky Farm

Marisa Benasutti

Marisa has been farming for 5 years in Minnesota on small-scale, organic vegetable farms. She’s passionate about building a stronger, more resilient & equitable food system. She designed her own major in college in Food Policy & Sustainable Agriculture which is what led her to farming. Once she felt the sunshine on her skin and tasted broccolini right off the plant, there was no going back. Marisa loves to discover new ways to enjoy the flavors of the farm like through cocktails! She’s also a yoga & meditation instructor and astrologer. Her life is all about connecting with people & the earth, and food, farming & cocktails is an ideal way to do that.

Heather Drake

Heather grew up in Zimbabwe and learned to grow food and steward the land as a child. She’s managed & worked on organic CSA farms in Minnesota for 10 years until starting Moshky Farm. She studied horticulture & organic farming at the University of Minnesota. Since starting Moshky Farms with Marisa Benasutti, she is excited to live out her dream to grow traditional African crops in Minnesota for her community (especially all things collards!). Heather is passionate about soil health, sustainability, and cultivating a balanced eco-system on the farm. She loves to experience plants in all their possible forms from greenhouse to kitchen, collard greens to teas to cocktails! Nature is her classroom and she wants to spend her lifetime learning from all Mother Nature’s wisdom that she’s willing to bestow.
